Role Summary

The AVP Digital Insurance Information Systems will oversee the strategy, development, and management of digital solutions and information systems that support the insurance business.

This senior leadership role requires a deep understanding of both the insurance industry and digital technologies, with a focus on leveraging innovation to drive efficiency, improve customer experience, and support business growth.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in digital transformation within the insurance sector, possess strong leadership skills, and be adept at managing cross-functional teams to deliver complex systems and projects on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Understand & Feel:
  • Have EI, SQ and EQ to connect with voice of the customer. Understand typical insurance personas of all customers: Buying, Selling, Internal, External, customer segments etc.
  • Digital Strategy & Leadership:

Working with business, understand NLG brand value proposition, working in NLIT enable development and execution of the digital transformation strategy for the organization's insurance information systems. Drive innovation and oversee the modernization of legacy systems to ensure alignment with business objectives and market trends.

  • Technology Oversight:

Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of core insurance systems and digital platforms. Ensure that systems are scalable, secure, and compliant with industry standards and regulations.

  • Stakeholder Management:

Collaborate with internal stakeholders - business operations (underwriting, claims, actuarial, sales, etc.) & Product Distribution and Marketing to ensure alignment of digital initiatives with the broader organizational goals. Provide guidance and recommendations to business leaders on how to leverage technology to enhance operations.

  • Project & Program Management:

Partner with NLG PMO Manage large-scale digital projects, ensuring that initiatives are executed on time, within scope, and on budget. Lead cross-functional teams in the planning, design, and rollout of new technologies and systems.

  • Data Analytics & Insights:

Oversee the implementation of data analytics and business intelligence tools that provide actionable insights for decision-making. Leverage big data and advanced analytics to optimize underwriting, claims, pricing, and customer service.

  • Vendor & Partner Relations:

Build and maintain relationships with external vendors - NLG supplier partners for engineering and QE resources, technology providers, and partners. Evaluate third-party solutions and integrations to ensure the organization stays at the forefront of digital innovation.

  • Team Development & Management:

Lead and mentor a team of IT professionals, ensuring that they have the resources, skills, and knowledge to deliver on strategic goals. Foster a culture of continuous learning, innovation, and collaboration.

  • Compliance & Risk Management:

Ensure that all digital systems and platforms adhere to regulatory requirements within the insurance industry. Manage the risks associated with digital technologies, including cybersecurity, data privacy, and system downtime.

Qualifications:

  • Education:

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master's degree or relevant certifications (CIO, PMP, etc.) is a plus.

  • Experience:
  • Minimum of 10-15 years of experience in digital technology leadership roles, with at least 5 years in the insurance or financial services industry.
  • Proven track record of leading successful digital transformations and system implementations in the insurance sector.
  • Strong understanding of insurance business processes (underwriting, claims, policy administration) and how technology can enhance these processes.
  • Skills:
  • Expertise in digital platforms, cloud computing, data analytics, and automation technologies.
  • Deep understanding of insurance-specific software and applications (e.g., claims management systems, policy administration platforms, CRM tools).
  • Strong project management skills with experience leading cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving, strategic thinking, and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., GDPR, Solvency II, etc.).

The base compensation range represents the low and high end of the range for this position. Actual compensation will vary and may be above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to qualifications, skills, competencies, location, and experience. The range listed is just one component of our total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include an annual bonus, quarterly bonuses, commissions, and other long-term incentive compensation, depending on the position. National Life offers a competitive total rewards package which includes: a 401(k) retirement plan match; medical, dental, and vision insurance; a company funded wellness account for director and below employees; 10 paid holidays; a generous paid time off plan (22 days of combined time-off for non-exempt employees and exempt employees have discretion in managing their time, including scheduling time off in the normal course of business, but in no event will exempt employees receive less sick time than required by state or local law); 6 weeks of paid parental leave; and 6 weeks of paid family leave after a year of full-time employment.
