DescriptionThis role supports our legal operations in the West Coast and Midwest regions.
As the Regional General Attorney , you are responsible for leading and managing the performance of legal operations within an assigned region, ensuring alignment with the company's vision, goals, and performance targets. Overseeing a team of legal professionals, this role addresses challenges, and develops strategic initiatives to enhance legal representation and case outcomes, while increasing efficiency and maintaining a strong focus on client satisfaction. This leader collaborates closely across leadership teams to uphold operational standards, ensure adherence to legal and ethical practices, foster a culture of continuous improvement and excellence within the legal team.
In addition to managing litigation strategies and outcomes, the Regional General Attorney serves as a key business partner, communicating effectively with both Claims and Legal leadership to support strategic planning and large-scale initiatives. When conducting root cause analyses, the Regional General Attorney will identify opportunities for process improvements across regions and offices, prioritizing exceptional quality, satisfaction and performance while championing the development of team members, and ensuring both the team and the clients feel valued and supported.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide executive leadership for all litigation activities in the region, ensuring that legal representation meets high-quality standards and aligns with organizational goals to drive business success. Conduct assessments of regional legal service needs and sponsor initiatives to enhance service coverage, ensuring agility in response to market demands.
- Cultivate a high-performing legal team through advanced talent management strategies focused on professional development, engagement, coaching, and accountability. Align strategic priorities with performance goals to achieve desired outcomes driving accountability and taking timely action as necessary.
- Establish and maintain strong strategic relationships/partnership with Claims leadership to assess and refine litigation strategies, optimize workflows and improve legal effectiveness.
- Deliver legal analyses and updates to senior leadership, effectively communicating litigation trends and case developments to facilitate informed decision making.
- Lead evaluations of case outcomes with a focus on resource allocation. Collaborate with the Claims department in policyholder meetings to discuss legal services, processes and case handling. Meets with policyholders to discuss individual case handling.
- Direct regional legal operations with a focus on resource allocation, budget management, and developing cost-effective litigation strategies that align with organizational.
- Champion a culture of integrity by ensuring legal practices adhere to industry regulations and corporate policies, promoting accountability across the organization.
- Establish and oversee quality assurance frameworks, conducting audits and reviews to ensure compliance with company policies and ethical standards in legal practice.
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school. Admission to the bar in the relevant state(s) where the leader will practice.
- Extensive experience directly handling complex litigation.
- At least 5 years of experience in a leadership or management role, overseeing legal teams or operations in a regional capacity.
- Expertise in defense litigation across jurisdictions, including auto liability, general liability, workers' compensation, and complex matters. Comprehensive understanding of litigation processes, legal principles, and regulatory compliance.
- Possesses a strong understanding of insurance laws and industry trends, providing proactive legal guidance that influences defense litigation strategies.
- Proven ability to develop and implement legal strategies that align with organizational goals.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex legal issues and propose effective solutions.
- Leadership and operational experience.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, facilitating discussions with executive leadership and maintaining collaborative relationships with the claims department for effective case management.
