The Field Appraiser (Catastrophe Auto Appraiser) at KhS, is responsible for assessing hail-damaged vehicles in the field, estimating repair costs, and ensuring accuracy in damage evaluations for insurance claims. This role requires working in catastrophe (CAT) zones, collaborating with insurance adjusters, repair shops, and clients to deliver timely and fair appraisals. The appraiser must be proficient in estimating software, have a strong understanding of auto-body repair, and be able to work efficiently in fast-paced, high-volume environments. Training on KhS/Dent Wizard processes and job duties will be provided.

Key Responsibilities:

Damage Assessment & Estimation

  • Conduct thorough inspections of hail-damaged vehicles at dealerships, body shops, or catastrophe sites for KhS.
  • Assess vehicle damage utilizing crash-estimating systems for estimating tools and software.
  • Provide accurate, fair, and detailed estimates based on OEM repair guidelines and insurance policies.
  • Identify paintless dent repair (PDR) vs. conventional repair needs and recommend the best repair approach.

Claims & Customer Interaction

  • Work closely within KhS, policyholders, and repair facilities to process claims efficiently.
  • Explain damage assessment findings to customers and answer questions regarding repair procedures.
  • Negotiate claim settlements with insurers while maintaining transparency and fairness.
  • Ensure documentation is complete, including photos, notes, and estimates, to support claims processing.

Field Operations & Travel

  • Deploy to catastrophe-affected areas to assess vehicle hail damage on-site.
  • Adapt to varying work conditions, including outdoor inspections in different weather conditions.
  • Manage a high volume of appraisals within tight deadlines during peak catastrophe events.

Compliance & Reporting

  • Ensure all appraisals meet KhS, insurance company guidelines, industry standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain accurate records and submit timely reports on damage assessments and repair cost estimates.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, insurance claim regulations, and repair techniques.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field is a plus
  • 5+ years of experience in auto damage appraisal, catastrophe claims, or body shop estimating.
  • Certifications such as I-CAR, ASE, or state-required appraiser licensing preferred.
  • Proficiency in estimating software and digital claims processing tools.
  • Strong knowledge of paintless dent repair (PDR) and conventional body repair techniques.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work independently in high-pressure, fast-paced environments.
  • Willingness to travel extensively to catastrophe locations, sometimes on short notice.
  • Valid driver's license and the ability to operate a company or rental vehicle.

  • Extensive travel required to CAT-affected regions, sometimes for extended periods. Occasional travel may be required up to 75%
  • Flexible working hours, including weekends and long shifts during peak hail season.

The compensation offered for this position will depend on qualifications, experience, and geographic location.

The starting compensation is expected to be:

$65,000.00 - $80,000.00
