Job Purpose: Provide legal advice and counsel to functional or operational areas managers to ensure that their current or proposed activities, policies, business practices, and transactions comply with all relevant laws and regulations. Analyze and interpret case law, court reports, and proposed and existing laws and regulations to prepare technical reports on how they impact the organizations operations. Prepare legal contracts, letters of agreement, and other documents related to a variety of trade, commercial, financial, and operational matters (loans, leases, purchase agreements, acquisitions, divestitures, employment contracts) to protect the organizations legal and business interests. Review and approve public statements from a legal standpoint to identify, anticipate and mitigate legal risks. Represent the organization in legal proceedings before courts, government agencies, or other authorities so that the organizations interests are protected. Prepare materials for external legal counsel so that they are well-prepared to represent the organization in legal proceedings. As a valued member of the DHL Supply Chains corporate legal department, you will provide employment legal services including research, investigation, management of administrative charges, client counseling, and reporting. You will maximize legal department efficiencies and use of attorney time in all types of employment and human resources matters that arise in North America. Your tasks:
  • Researches, interprets and prepares legal documents.
  • Maintains official records, notices and actions as required by federal, state and local jurisdictions.
  • Anticipates and guards against legal risk involving the company.
  • Providing legal advice to different departments in the organization.
  • Advise on aspects of law and regulation applicable to the business unit. Liaison with external counsel and provide efficiencies in the briefing of counsel and the interpretation of their advice.
  • May assist in sourcing, soliciting, and collaborating with external legal counsels.
  • General counsel/advice on legal disputes and litigation process.
  • Identify training needs and opportunities to further risk mitigation.
  • Practices predominately in the area of employment law. Expertise regarding data privacy and transportation law also requested.
  • Prepares responses to employment related claims (EEOC, OSHA, DOL, etc.), undertaking research and investigatory projects, procuring documents, drafting communications, and preparing responses to discovery.
  • Supports the business in handling of employment-related matters involving associates in North America.
  • Prepares and maintains litigation-related reports, legal library/forms and documents, files and statistics, including tracking of litigation costs.
  • Assists in ensuring the legal needs of internal clients are identified and addressed in a proactive and timely manner.
  • Identifies processes and issues that need escalation for more senior attorney input and resolution.
  • Researches, analyzes, and interprets case law, statutes, and regulations to provide advice and counsel to the organization.
  • Prepares litigation-related documents, supports contract preparation, and ensures corporate compliance.
Your profile: Essentials
  • Undergraduate university degree
  • Professional Juris Doctorate degree from accredited institution
  • License to practice law in Ohio and in good standing
  • 4 years of relevant experience
  • Minimum 2 years of relevant experience with a law firm, corporate legal department, or governmental agency (or any combination thereof).Employment law preferred, with data privacy and transportation expertise also valued.
  • Knows fundamental law concepts, practices and procedures of general law practice or a particular field of specialization.

Job Description

Legal professional with a 5-7 years contract experience to provide general legal support to assigned business units. There will be heavy focus on the review and negotiation of wide-ranging contracts (e.g., customer contracts, real estate, procurement) to ensure compliance with Laws and Company policies.

prepare, draft, and analyze contracts and contract terms related to a variety of customer, vendor, trade, commercial, financial, and operational matters to protect DHLs legal and business interests

provide general legal advice to clients served, and advise members of the business on legal and related risks associated;

work well as member of a closely-knit, diverse, and well-respected legal team defending and representing DHLs interest;

deliver trainings on legal topics relevant to the business, and advise business on legal trends and developing areas of law;

possess advanced and well-developed skills and knowledge within the contracts/transactions area with the ability to integrate theory and principals with DHLs practices, policies, and precedents;

lead various projects impacting business, operations and revenue, and liaise with senior management, business divisions, consultants, outside counsel, and other parties as appropriate,

Positive attitude and strong attention to detail are necessary.Additional skills and qualifications include:

Required Education and Experience

B.A. (from an accredited college or university) & J.D. (from an accredited law school)

Licensed to practice law in State

Contracts/transactional experience (with full knowledge of contracts terminology)
