The full salary range for this role reflects the competitive labor market value for all employees in these positions across the national market and provides an opportunity to progress as employees grow and develop within the role. Some roles at Liberty Mutual have a corresponding compensation plan which may include commission and/or bonus earnings at rates that vary based on multiple factors set forth in the compensation plan for the role.

Description

Head of Excess Casualty Major Accounts

Leads a national underwriting organization for a significant commercial lines segment for General and Construction related Excess Casualty risks through effective risk selection, Agent/Broker relationships, portfolio management, and leadership. Manages a production underwriter model that values discipline, profitable growth, ease of doing business, and superior distribution management. Leads a high-performing underwriting organization through effective selection, development, performance management and employee engagement.

Responsibilities

  • Leads a high-performing underwriting organization through effective selection, development, and employee engagement drives the clarity of business strategies/operating objectives and creates alignment.
  • Drives the development of challenging business plans reflective of the competitive environment aggressively monitors results adjusting strategies and tactics to maximize profit while balancing growth.
  • Ensures the organization develops and maintains successful relationships with agents and brokers by providing stewardship with service partners, including initial setup of service commitments, and regular visits. Ensures the achievement of continued profitability, growth and/or operational efficiencies for division through assessment of risk tolerance, market appetite and emerging risk issues.
  • Evaluates underwriting performance based on financial analysis. Includes rate, reserve adequacy, operational, planning and product reviews. Promotes an environment of continuous improvement, collaboration and partnership applies Liberty Mutual Systems (LMS) principles to improve customer relationships, quality and work processes. Provides overall direction for underwriting authority delegation, audit criteria and catastrophe management for area of responsibility.
  • Contributes to the development of strategic marketing initiatives. Enhances and maintains Liberty presence with the brokerage community by solidifying key relationships.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of commercial property & casualty products; insurance operations; finance and actuarial concepts; regulatory environment; reinsurance; account management; underwriting; producer management; and product development
  • Skills required include analyzing and problem solving; decision making, building relationships; courage; innovation; communicating effectively, engaging and motivating people; negotiation; influencing others; focusing on service; managing and improving processes; executing well; planning and organizing work
  • Must be well versed in US Excess Casualty and have leadership experience
  • Other capabilities required include openness to new experiences, calmness under pressure, conscientiousness and humility as normally acquired through an advanced degree or equivalent training, 10 or more years of relevant experience, several of which should be in an operations management capacity
